PACA - caring passionately for loved ones…

A call to paid volunteering.

PACA is an award winning caregiver marketplace where caregivers are trained, certified and found by care recipient. PACA creates and maintains a caregiver service delivery ecosystem that drives global employability. PACA creates a self-sustaining community for people with disabilities where they develop their unique abilities into meaningful job skills while building friendship, independence, a sense of belonging and purpose through policy advocacy and social entrepreneurship.

Our partnership with Behaviour Analyst Certification Board and Certified-Childcare Professional (CCP) allows for us to train selected intending caregivers, certify them with a globally recognized certification and deploy them across the globe (In countries where we have our jurisdictional partners or our practice is adopted).  Our Create Onsite Hub (COH) model is used to generate revenue, create jurisdictional partners and decongest overburdened private and government resources globally.

State your goals.

Building a sustainable Caregiver Ecosystem for children, pets, those with infirmities, disabilities, Carers, and the elderlies;

  1. Standardize and harmonize the different certification for caregivers (Eldercare/people with disability/petcare/childcare/Auxiliary nurses to create a marketplace or service the ecosystem for excellent service delivery, global employability for the various care-sect thereby making the profession of caregiving attractive
  2. Improve the quality of training for caregivers by adopting the online training method after which posting of selected-trainees to jurisdictional partners (NGOs, LTD/GTE, CSOs, COH modelled etc) for first-hand experience and the inculcation of professional ethics for excellent service delivery
  3.  Regulate the ecosystem activities through standardization which will drive Continual training, education and development opportunities resulting in an enhanced Caregiver ecosystem and revenue generation
  4. Initiate payment of caregivers in the informal space who has to dedicate their entire life to care for a loved one through the adoption of this practice
  5. Generated revenue from this PRACTICE is used to support the ecosystem
  6. Adopt the Create Onsite Hub (COH) model; where Consented Parent of people with disability / Individual Certified Professionals with a Space partners up with Accredited Jurisdictional partners (Consisting of NGOs/ CSOs who cater to the needs of caregivers in the informal space whom dedicate their lives to care for loved ones without payment) to Ease the pressure on overburdened care systems and non-existent social security services and government resources
  7. Adopt open-source development of technology/hackathons to encourage technology innovation and innovative solutions
  8. The goal of this practice will be to continually develop and improve product offerings that will attract an ever increasing and wider customer base.

NB: The adoption of this practice systematically enhances the global caregiver ecosystem/marketplace without overriding existing practices all at once.

What problems (particularly in value chain competitiveness and global disruption) are your community’s stakeholders facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic?

  1. Unregulated ecosystem activities and a lack of standardization to drive Continual training, education and development opportunities resulting in an enhanced Caregiver ecosystem and revenue generation
  2. No existing Database (With image) of existing certified caregivers for easy verification and confirmation of true identity in the porous system.
  3. No vetted training process for intending caregivers/ Problem relating to dearth in Specialist capacity and centers
  4. No fully integrated ICT centric workflow/structure to drive, guide and promote quality assurance and innovation dynamics
  5. No known means to raise funds from a practice to better service the most vulnerable people in the ecosystem
  6. Overburdened care systems, government resources and non-existent social security programs
  7. No way to checkmate Caregiver Negligence, bridge of contract, threat of unofficial arrangement by caregiver and customer after first subscription
  8. Brick and mortar caregiving centers can no longer be reached by potential clients without going to the center

SOME PROMBLEMS IN THE ECOSYSTEM

  1. Harvard researchers estimate that there are more than 386,000 home health care businesses in the U.S., an industry that employs approximately 1.7million people but Africa Lack social worker’s infrastructure, health and social care information centers.
  2. There is a Lack of infrastructure that track those exiting Special Education public schools to track their progress and needs (similar to Texas House Bill 1574 2009) in Africa.
  3. Autism-related health care and education average more than $60,000 per child in a year. Maximum time for therapy per child is 40-40 hours a week, brick and mortar centers in Africa offer as low as 2 hours a day (Strategic plan)
  4. Lack of Value based Caregiver marketplace in Africa that addresses the issue of over-burdened and congested government resources and facility
  5. Lack of Campus dedicated to vocational courses for people with disability in Africa; a fully functioning community with residential living facilities, shops, labs, middle offices, and-a worship center preparing them for employment and a productive lifestyle.

What minimum viable solution(s) are you proposing to address the challenge(s) in your community?

PACA is an integrated Caregiver Marketplace (The Platform/Model) that is accessible to differentategoriesfustomer persona. A Cated site (COH), web based platform and Downloadable Application frm Apple Store and Play Store for smart phone Users whom will like to find a caregiver, get trained, certified or find relevant information. A USSD string for feature phone Users whom will like to find a Caregiver or get specific information. PACA partners with Special Education-public-schools, agencies and volunteers to build an integrated system to track their progress and needs to enable us commit proceeds from donations and operations to offering limited scholarships, subsidized therapy and empowering individuals with special needs for an independent life in a self-sustaining community with residential living facilities, educational shops and labs, middle offices, and a worship center.

Call for suitably qualified governing board members and Volunteers representing each jurisdiction. Partners up with Internationally recognized training bodies for the relevant categories of our broad services i.e (American-Caregiver Association/Applied-Behavioral-Analysis/Certified-Childcare-Professional CCP or adopt the Train-the-Trainers method) to train our limited pool of selected Trainee-Volunteers in different regions(Simultaneously). Trainee-Volunteers are sensitively selected after Volunteering on PACAs platform, existing workforce will be contacted after applying on PACAs platform. Certified Caregivers, Certified Parent of Children with disabilities and Individual Certified Professionals with a Space can Create local Onsite Hubs(COH) where onsite supervised care is given different categories that span - People with developmental disability, ChildCare, PetsCare, Eldercare, and Home-sitters through a digitally streamlined inspection process where applicants who meet the prerequisite go through our franchising process; images are sent to our platform, local inspection is done and approval is given to commence operation.

Revenue is generated in the various value chain.

MVP RESULT; This is why we attract investors

Net profit of 110,000 X 6 =  660,000

48 customers in 6 (six) months = Gross profit for 6 months on a realizable steady customer graph of 48 customers in 6 months is 8x6x45,000 =  2,160,000

OR 48X45000 = 2,160,000

=  2160,000 Gross profit for 6 months.

Net profit for 6 months = 110, 000 x 6 = N 660,000

Recurring estimated No. of customers for a month = 8

Cost per Value based reimbursement plan = 45,000

We offer our system based trained caregiver N30,000, and keep 15,000  X 8 = 120,000 Monthly

Fixed monthly cost for 8 persons = 10,000

Net profit per month on a recurring basis of 8 customers =  110,000

Tax is pegged to individual caregiver.

 Gross Profit = 8 customers in one-month x 45000 = 360,000

(Extent of HIGH profitability is reflected without adding other revenue sources)

- PACA has succeeded in creating jobs while earning 15,000 per successful trade deal (Just a channel)

Intending caregivers are required to produce Two Government employed guarantors for "intending

https://paca.africa (We are currently building  and integrating a digital infrastructure that harmonizes our digital community service offerings).

Share your story (your narrative)

'What shame! I want her hidden away in some place.” ''Where do I get the money from to travel abroad for therapies?'' “Do I really have to give up my life to care for my child, ageing guardian, or relative?” “I will be away for some time; how do I get someone to care for the pets?” “I feel neglected, nobody to speak to, nobody to care for me, why don’t I just die….” Longevity and children should be seen as a blessing, not the other way round. Africa lacks a caregiver service delivery ecosystem, an addressable estimated enduring market of $14. Trillion, with an infrastructure that will engender global employability of certified caregivers

We got a validation to follow through with intentional steps after iterating. An old friend whom happens to be a church member lost his dad. We learnt that his dad had passed on to eternity 5 days before they knew about his demise because there was no one to care for him passionately. Africa lacks a care giver service delivery ecosystem.

In the course of our iteration, we met with Victoria, Victoria is a single working class mother of an autistic child, she complains bitterly of the deteriorating state of her child because she can’t care for him passionately, AND there’s no cost effective evidence based therapy in Nigeria

We met with Mr. Ade, a retired professor who has mobility issues. He wishes death on himself because there’s nobody to care for him passionately. He said life will be worth living if something is done about the narrative

We met with Musa, a fresh graduate from the university of Lagos state, his mom has mobility issues and dementia, he dedicates his entire life to caring passionately for her, he can neither work or socialize – they all crave change. This stories birthed the PACA unique model.

The aforementioned real life stories reinforced our decision to found a niche that changes the narrative.

Everyone should be caregivers!

Please provide any additional relevant information that you would like to share.

Last year, PACAs MVP emerged as one of the global winners of the ITU Innovation challenge; Smart Communities Challenge. Since then, PACA has gotten access to grants and gone on to build a plethora of working partnership relationship with relevant stakeholders like Weforgood International, IHSTowers, Africa’s Young Entrepreneurs, LEAP Africa, Institute of Information Management, BurstIQ in the U.S., the Ministry of Information, Nigeria, Behaviour Analyst Certification Board, Certified-Childcare Professionals (CCP), Insurance companies, Pension Companies, Innovation hubs, Private and public hospitals to create and maintain a caregiver service delivery ecosystem through evidence-based policy, program development and social entrepreneurship. PACA puts sustainability at the core of its operations, with up to 11 revenue sources as a company limited by guarantee (LTD/GTE)

Currently, there are too many details - which is good! You have sound knowledge of your project.

But this information is too overwhelming to process. This may lead to not having the audience “hooked” to your story or pitching.

So, here are some suggestions to help you categorize the details.

Basic description of practice/MVP:
For starters, you may want to introduce your practice/MVP, stating its name, the country it is being operationalized in, and may be a tagline (if there is any). This information could be presented in 2 sentences.
Share some insights about your practice’s governance model. Include (brief details) about your organization’s structure, your management & institutional framework, and the competencies (what your practice specializes in and how it is unique from other similar projects?).

Objectives:
(i) Objective- just 3 short simple sentences. Do not get into the details. (ii) Clearly state your target stakeholders- provide clear demographics with clear explanations backed with credible facts/data (iii) State your desired outcome for ecosystem.

Problems:
Your answers for elaborating the problems are fine. But back your claims with credible facts/data- this is paramount in engendering trust. Show your audience the proofs and scientific evidence. Give them a reason to believe you and know that the problems are real.

Solution:
When discussing about the solution, provide a sentence to describe what exactly it is and then focus on how it is executed. Categorize the key activities of your solution accordingly (i.e. (i) mechanisms (ii) processes (iii) activities (iv) event). Also, indicate how you get access to the resources that enable you to operationalize your practice- provide (brief) information about your (i) financial and non-financial resources (ii) your sources and partners.
Also, include brief details of your practice’s achievements as it provides the evaluation of your practice based on the following criteria: (i) replicability (how easily it can be copied to a different context); (ii) scalability (the scope of the practice in achieving its goals); (iii) evidence of impact on the ecosystem (the effectiveness of the practice in achieving its goals); and (iv) results (the outcomes based on KPIs set by the practice).

Story:
It is really good. But needs structuring. Refer to our storytelling factsheet and/or the video for guidance.

Keep all your answers short and straight to the point. Remember, your audience do not have the time for long essays

Hi Niva,

Thanks for your feedback. I have taken note of everything you pointed out.

Did you notice that the questions asked in the cocreation platform is totally different from what is asked in the final submission form?

The final submission form has all the details you pointed out in the exact order you pointed out. I filled it out in that order before submitting.

I will cut down on the information shared when I can edit my submission on the platform

Thanks for you feedback.

Hi ! Yes, you are right. If you pay attention to my suggestions, it helps you structure your answer according to the good practice framework. It's great that you have already reviewed it! The purpose of the initial questions is to help you with the pitching. But, to know more about your org and how it executes your practice, you need flip your answers according to the good practice framework. Hence, at the end, you will be able to pitch for both your idea and org. This is the unique aspect of this particular challenge :) That's why only those with MVPs that are operational can apply for this challenge.

Thanks for reading through patiently to understand how they are both interwoven to create a new niche in the development sector. Till then, the interwoven piece and the practice is replicable at all levels in business.

Okay, here's something really important that you need to address. Recall the challenge question- "Do you have a good practice that will enable innovators to develop ICT-centric solutions? "

Please provide a clear answer to the above question. Include an explanation on how as an ecosystem builder with good practices you will nurture an enabling environment for innovators in their communities.

Refer to the challenge brief for more details. Provide your answer(s) as a response to my comment.

In PACAs case, our work captures all three thematic areas of the challenge. It all translates to sustainably directing the course of an ecosystem through innovation and directing the course of Innovation in an ecosystem.

Guiding innovation dynamics - We've clearly stated how we are working to standardize certification for care givers. We've clearly stated how we are creating a caregiver service delivery ecosystem.

Building Innovation Capacity - Harmonizing data from the different data sources for analytics and effective decision making. Our open source approach to programs/robotics development.

Integrating ICT Innovation in key sectors : Cluster development initiatives like our COH model, Integrating ICT into the caregivers space to create a new niche etc.

I am happy to break it down further ...

Nice initiative. However, I think you are taking on too many problems (at the time and) very early. Simplicity is velocity. You are trying to solve too many problems. I think you should focus on solving one, and when you're known and loved for solving one of the problems, you can scale into solving the next.

Michael Udoinyang Jul 12, 2020

We started off with evidence based research. We created a "Marketplace." We noticed that there is no form of standardization and we began working to harmonize a Caregiver Service Delivery Ecosystem for effective service delivery. We are also bringing programmers together to contribute to our open source development effort. Among others, in 2017, my team developed a solution that is 100% Convenient, Cost effective, Theft proof and Universal (CCTU)at the CBN digital pay expo(I hope you know what this means). I am Now wired to solve problems practically, sensitively and systematically.

EUNICE KAJALA Jul 14, 2020

Hi Michael,
Your initiative is nice and well thought. As you've mentioned, Africa lacks caregiver service delivery ecosystem, being a new thing in this part of the world, how will you convince people from the mentioned region to make use of your service. Looking at some factors, social and cultural issues, could be obstacles for the advancement of your initiative. For sick people, care giving is considered as part of the family issue and care giving to pets , might look as a strange thing.

Michael Udoinyang Jul 19, 2020

There's a compelling need for our model. We've got our target audience. Beyond organizational scale, we've reached for systemic scale with the goal of shifting the rules, norms and values that makeup society. There are no rules, the norms are existing practices that presented a case for our model, the values are not necessarily overridden but reinforced by a better option. The 4th industrial revolution is not just about robotics and automation, it is about the advancement of society to empower people and uplift generations. Thanks

Ivana Kostic Jul 18, 2020

Great initiative! It is something that might be necessary in every corner of the world. Why just Africa? IS there an idea of moving to other markets? I think your focus should be on caregiving activities for children with autism, stressing their issues (relieving the burden for working parents with children with autism, removing the stigma, making societies more inclusive etc.)

Michael Udoinyang Jul 19, 2020

It's a global project that is designed to advance humanity. Thanks.

Henry Dobson Jul 19, 2020

Hi Michael, the traction you've gained so far is impressive - well done! As noted by other people below, there is a lot going on at PACA. A few questions I have are:

1) The name of your organisation is the Pan-African Centre for Autism (PACA). Yet you appear to offering healthcare services to children, pets, those with infirmities, disabilities, carers, and the elderly". Are you really providing services to all these sectors? If you are then the name PACA is not quite appropriate because it specifies autism only.

2) Revenue generation isn't clear from the details you've given. What are the "various value chains" exactly? The financial model you've provided simply isn't clear enough for understanding the investment opportunity of PACA. At this point in time, the financial aspects are not as important as understanding the business model. From whom and how exactly does PACA make money? E.g. Do you collect fees and/or royalties through training and education?

3) Is it actually possible to "standardise and harmonise" the different certifications for caregivers? The medical profession is complex with varying degrees of qualification depending on the kind of medical care-giving being provided. I'm just not sure how you standardise these certifications.

4) What is YOUR story? The real-life stories you've presented are important, but we want to hear more about YOU, where you've come from and what has led you into this venture, and why! I've no doubt your own story will be inspirational as well as powerful for further developing PACA.

Thanks for your questions...
A Good Practice is not necessarily a business venture. The benefit of a Good Practice is not necessarily monetary. I clearly showed how both entities are sensitively interwoven to engender excellent service delivery and an enhanced ecosystem. The Good practices are needed to help:
1. Develop flagship projects
2. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of a practice
comparatively
3. Undertake evidence-based policy or program development.
Kindly refer to the Good Practice Canvas Factsheet.
However, we have up to 11 revenue models which stand out as our sustainability strategy sufficient enough to attract and keep investors. . 1. Value-Based-Reimbursement (Activities of Daily Living ,Instrumental Activities of Daily Living) – we charge a month for comprehensive subscription) 2. Donations and Grants
3. Greenhouse and Organic Vegetable Garden 4. Contract & Outsourcing by Citizens
5. Lease Income from Property (Installing retail, medical, dental)
6. Campus Tuition / training for citizens and non-citizens (Recurring) 7. Sales of locally made in-campus products (handmade crafts/local honey or jams/notecards/bags and
totes/wooden crosses/wooden toys/seasonal plaques and signs/produce from garden 8. Consulting
9. Development and sales of dedicated application/software with local content etc.

I believe that some specific questions are answered in the final submission form.

It's all unique because our focus is on the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living AND Activities of Daily Living, we do not treat. In most cases, we monitor the health of care recipient and report updates to family members or a doctor.

PACA is a social enterprise; limited by guarantee (Hybrid business model). Our strategic plan was/is to use the proceeds of our marketplace activities to support the development of a dedicated center for autism. Apart from attracting long term investors, it helps us to be a lot more competitive. Customers know that their money is being channeled to a noble cause, so they patronize us more..
The CAREGIVING space is an ecosystem with carers whom service the ecosystem. Our practice Initiates payment of caregivers(CARERS) in the informal space who has to dedicate their entire life to care for a loved one.

3. ANSWER- YES it is possible through strategic partnership(SDG17). Standardization in the context refers to standard training and certification of caregivers. Harmonization refers to the creation of a caregiver service delivery ecosystem that solves the problems listed out. At various brick and mortar centers, caregivers without a vetted form of certification and training train intending caregivers, resulting in a porous ecosystem.

PACA could be a standalone practice!

Harvard Business Review recently published an article that i identify with. A few things may have been edited but it could be useful.

https://hbr.org/2020/06/there-are-no-easy-ans...m_medium=social

That is my story. It is the experience relevant to further developing PACA.

Your initiative is very good, it will create a great community of caregivers in our society. I have a quick feedback for you, please try to refine your project. Since your target group is very large, changing the name of your project will be very useful for you.

Tafadzwa Chikwereti Aug 5, 2020

After reading about the idea you proposed for paid volunteering , I would like to say that it is a wonderful and fantastic idea as it goes in line with the goals of the United Nation.
To add to your solution, I am sharing with you questions from one of our trainings that can help in refining our ideas and projects
What business model will you follow to implement this idea?
What methodology or strategy will you use during different processes of implementing this idea?
Which are the processes you have to go through until the finalization of the idea?
What means or tools do you need to implement my idea?
Which are your potential collaborators, investors?
I honestly suggest that before you submit your idea or project, please and ask yourself these questions and even if you have submitted their project, do remember that we still have opportunity to refine our ideas and resubmit. I hope that you find this useful.

The Sdg's are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

Please vote and comment for my idea too in the campus community
