The feminine gender deserves to know

As a girl that was raised from a humble background, I would not have made to the different levels of learning but for the sponsors, bursaries  and scholarships i made it to Makerere University.  It is at this university that i learned how important digital skills/ digital literacy would have been to me at my teenage ages. Despite having missed then, digital literacy and skills continue to enlighten my path and they can still help anyone even at later  stages.

I give free online lectures to all interested ladies that have access to a computer and internet about using the application software(word, power point, excel, spreadsheet, database) because they need all these skills in the day today life both at work and at home, its true some may be having a few skills with such applications but learning more features is equally important.  I also  teach those that are already familiar with using a computer, website development skills and software development skills (HTML, CSS, java-script, PHP). These skills can help them earn a living  through self employment achieve any other goals they ever intend to.

I currently completed my website development course with women institute of technology and innovation under women in technology Uganda and am now working on a site called sprout out where  I will be posting educative material especially about the reproductive health to young girls especially the teenagers that are just beginning to experience a change in their growth. i will be moving to different places most especially villages and slums with a team of young doctors and motivational speakers to talk to the young girls on ho how to deal with changes in their growth plus serving them a few materials like sanitary towels.   people that have access to this site will be able to contact me directly and am i will be available to provide reply nearly immediately.  this site will be improved to allow users post any useful life questions and useful answers will be provided.

I am involved in a certain association of young people where we do a lot one of which is women empowerment, we give soft loans to women with nearly no security but only being guaranteed by a member(s). most women are supporting families and in certain cases, they need loans to sustain a living which they cant get without enough collateral security from commercial banks, here we came in and developed this  idea that is slowly succeeding except that the funds in the association are low compared to the the demand, this is what are trying to deal with currently. the association also does a lot outside this and you  can visit abilityyouthinitiative.000webhostapp.com for me information it. To know more about me, visit my curriculum vitae at andindaruth.000webhostapp.com

State your goals

1. Involving women to compete digitally

2. Providing reproductive health to growing teenagers and motivating them to avoid early unwanted pregnancies.

3. Providing financial literacy and support to women that are responsible for running families through soft loans.

4. 1mproving digital skills and solutions among women

5. Helping girls get self employed through software development skills.

What problems (particularly in value chain competitiveness and global disruption) are your community’s stakeholders facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic?

1. Most people are jobless and some lack basic needs

2. The youth are redundant  and nearly spend whole day on social media

3. Some people find difficult at work and sometimes lose jobs due to lack of basic ICT skills.

What minimum viable solution(s) are you proposing to address the challenge(s) in your community?

1. Providing soft loans to those that lack security to get loans in big banks

2. Providing online lectures in application software and website development skills so as to get them busy and engaged in usable skills

3. Help those with difficult at work due to lack of digital skills

Share your story (your narrative)

Am a female Ugandan aged 21. A student of Makerere University pursuing a bachelors in information systems and technology. I believe in technology and i know digital skills can make a difference in someones life. I grew up from a humble background deep in villages until i secured a scholarship to come to the city, I choose to do an I.T course because i wanted to know what happens behind the monitors and the keyboards plus the application software that i merely knew how to apply it. I secured a laptop from this scholarship which am currently using to develop my digital skills as a woman. i have learnt a lot with support from institutions like women institute of technology and innovation and outbox.com that have given me free online lectures in website development and software development respectively.
I  have a plan of helping youth(females) and women that are going through the same problem (digital illiteracy) which continues to lower there status behind men each day. so I am on this platform to share my idea  on the steps am already taking and planning to help women and girls gain usable digital skills

Please provide any additional relevant information that you would like to share.

If it wasn't for shortage of resources, Females in my community would be well equipped with digital literacy skills but i look forward to not giving up on this.

Thanks for sharing the overview of your idea! The essence of your idea seems to be promising.

But here are some suggestions to help you improve/refine your idea further:
1. Cut down the verbiage:
- Remember, you are “selling” your MVP to someone (could be sponsor) and therefore your pitch must be short and sweet. Just keep your answers straight to the point.
- All other information can be in an annex

2. Description of your idea:
- Address the who (target audience; provide clear demographics), what (clearly state the problem but don’t get into the details- you will get to this in question 4), how (how your solution will solve the problem), and your promise to your target market. Be specific and your answer should be in maximum 5 short and simple sentences.

3. The Problem:
- Elaborate the problem(s) and then explain how the problems affect your target audience, and how has the situation has gotten worse due to the ongoing public health crisis. Cite credible sources to back up any claims.

4. The Solution:
- Keep in mind the following questions: (i) How can your target audience access your solution? (ii) What are the unique features of your solution will deliver your fulfill your promises and benefit your audience and how? . Also, include the feasibility of implementing your solution. Cite credible sources to back up any claims

5. The story:
- This is provided in the beginning of your submission. However, try to include specific details about: (i) what problem you are trying to solve and why, (ii) how the problem has affected you, (iii) the steps you have taken to address the problems, (iv) what worked and didn't work, (v) how you finally reached the milestone etc; and (vi) your final call-to-action.

Thank you so much for your comment. But how do I do that when its impossible to edit my idea. Am so new on this platform and that is why maybe I had to ask such a question.

You will be able to make the adjustments when you reach the "refine your idea" stage. For that, you need to genuinely earn 20 votes :) and enough constructive feedback from other participants. To get these, you need to also review other participants' ideas and provide them constructive feedback that will help them refine/improve their idea.

We are going to discuss more about this in the upcoming webinar!

These are all great points — so I am just following up here. Please keep up the good work, the idea is amazing and for sure we need to increase digital literacy among women.
Hopefully you will reach 20 votes and will be able to edit the proposal — and if that happens, I am willing to help as well in refining it. Good Luck!

Alex Carle Jul 16, 2020

HI. I love your passion and commitment. However the sustainability and business model is not clear. I wish you well in this process to help you to develop the concept further and how to articulate that.

Andinda Ruth Jul 16, 2020

Thank you so much. This has been my first time on this platform so I didn't know how well I was supposed to do, when I get votes to reach refine idea level, I will make everything right. Thank you so much for the comment. Am grateful

Greetings
Let me congratulate you about these incredible ideas of helping women to increase their knowledge through digital literacy. I really appreciate it. I was wondering about refining your partners as well as a business model because they will be needed in implementation of this ideas. Thanks

Andinda Ruth Jul 24, 2020

thank you so much, i hoping to make it right when i rech at refine idea level

Hi Ruth, well done. How do you recover your money back from borrowers in case of defaults? Do the beneficiaries act as guarantors for themselves such that if one defaults the other member(s) of a group (if any) is/are held responsible?

Andinda Ruth Jul 24, 2020

borrowers are guaranteed by a member(s) of the association whose total savings are less or equal to the amount of loan a borrower requires so that in case the borrower fails to pay at any time, we recover our money from the savings of the member(s) that guaranteed them.

Is it a social business? how you make money?

Andinda Ruth Jul 24, 2020

i am one of the directors of a youth association called the ability youth initiative where we give loans to youth and women, in this way, i use some of the earnings... but i dont use a lot of money as of now since i just have to sit on my laptop at a specific time and give free online lectures and this costs me only data...

Sound interesting :) all the best dear

Fahmida Hossain Jul 24, 2020

Hi Andinda Ruth,
Thanks for sharing with our your fantastic idea. You mentioned in your idea that you are giving free online leacture to women.
Firstly, my question is do you give those lectures in the local language?
Secondly, please clear your problem and solution statement and share it with us in details. This will help us to understand better your project.
Thank you

Andinda Ruth Jul 24, 2020

yes thanks. i give free online lectures in English because i train women from different regions. however am looking at expanding this to have other trainers from different regions so that we can start training women according to regions and this will help us mix some local language to help them understand better.
about problems and solution statement, let me do as requested

Great initiative... Keep up the good work

Marabe Ditshego Jul 26, 2020

Hi Ruth,
I trust you are well.

Let me congratulate you on your idea. I must commend you on the way you opened your post, I was really captivated by your story. Moreover, one might take for granted how few people know how to use the Microsoft applications and also how important these applications are for organizing day to day life activities whether personal or commercial.

I wish to share a few questions and remarks for your consideration.
1. Since you’ve already started development on a prototype, how about you consider changing your objectives into SMART objectives to reflect where you would like to take your prototype going forward. Visit https://thedigitalprojectmanager.com/project-objectives/ for a detailed explanation.
2. Consider amending your problem section by stating facts and statistics (with sources/citations) that will give readers an idea about the damage COVID-19 has caused for education s a whole in Uganda but more specifically for women. Tell us about the current and future implications.
3. I understand that for now you will be focusing on children with access to computers but I really hope you that your solution will evolve to service those without computers in the near future.

Andinda Ruth Jul 27, 2020

thank you so much for the comment and the advise, i really appreciate and everything has been put into consideration.

Marabe Ditshego Jul 27, 2020

You most welcome. All the best moving forward.

Nivashini Rave Rattey Jul 27, 2020

The idea has been progressed to the next milestone.

Ivan Ochieng Jul 27, 2020

Hi Ruth. Great idea. Just wondering how will you evaluate the eligibility of your clients ? What happens when a client defaults? How will you earn money?

Ivana Kostic Jul 27, 2020

Hi Andinda, great idea, keep it going! What is the financial model? How will the girls from rural areas going to pay for the classes? Or in other words, how would you support your efforts? Many thanks, Ivana

EUNICE KAJALA Aug 2, 2020

Good initiative. How are you going to sustain it?

Calister Simba Aug 14, 2020

Hi Andinda,

I really like your idea and I can see the passion you have put in this idea.

I'm more interested with your loan solution but since this idea is already in review I believe I will see you at the end and we can conserve more on this solution.

But keep up with that passion, not many people have that!!

Hi Ruth, great idea you are moving in the right track. It is always great to have points in your idea and sticking to selling points. Always make it short and sweet. Then I wanted to find out something what is the difference between women using your platform and them going to access the same skills on YouTube? How do you intend to support your project cause their logistics involved to insure that you continue operating?

Nivashini Rave Rattey Aug 29, 2020

For each points stated for the question on your MVP, explain the feasibility of it. You need to explicitly elaborate how exactly will it help solve the problem and benefit the target audience. Describe the process behind each point.

Start working on your final submission form. You are running out of time. So, hurry up.
