Innovation Guide

GenerationS is a corporate accelerator which helps Russian and international companies find their innovation core through various activities and joint initiatives discovering opportunities beneficial for startups as well as for corporations. We are the bridge that connects startups with clients in the ICT field as well as in other fields.

Startup scouting is the main part of GenerationS activity, but not the only one. Apart from that we do have the whole Alumni Club, that’s how we call startups that successfully passed an acceleration stage. These might be startups at pretty early stage as well as SME with sales. We try to provide them all kind of support, starting from useful network and PR finishing possible sources of investments and programs where they can find new clients.
Regarding startups from the abroad – based on our partner’s requests we also scout startups outside of Russia and once they are selected for further stage, we do provide them assistance and dedicated mentors (from our accelerators that are focal points for them before contract is signed). We do explain them the key aspects of Russian legislations, conduct calls and clarifying sessions and help them and the partner to build the most productive form of cooperation.

When it comes to our unique point which differs us from other accelerators - despite being an accelerator, which deals on a year basis with pretty big amount of startups we really manage to find individual approach to each one of them and build strong bond, which lasts long after the accelerator is over. That means a lot to us.

State your goals.

Programs implemented by GenerationS help to transform the whole industries and give a path to the most promising startups in the ICT field to grow their business, find their clients and new markets. GenerationS provides all kind of support in reaching these goals.

What problems (particularly in value chain competitiveness and global disruption) are your community’s stakeholders facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic?

Current situation showed the need of quick digital transformation for all the sectors and all types of companies. We help our main stakeholders - the corporates to foster digital transformation which is certainly driver to become more resilient and to increase the competitiveness level. In particular, COVID-19 revealed that many companies need TRL 6-7 ICT solutions that will help them to reach that goal and improve business processes.

What minimum viable solution(s) are you proposing to address the challenge(s) in your community?

Our minimum solution is to scout and accelerate ICT and other startup-projects (russian and foreign) to bridge them with large  corporations, international and russian.

Currently GenerationS has joint accelerator programs with - PepsiCo (FMCG sector), ChelPipe Group (Pipe industry) and Stale Transport Leasing Company (Transport sector).

They all are also looking for various ICT solutions that can help to improve the processes and industry in general.

PepsiCo is looking for Big Data tools to enrich existing information with additional parameters from third-party sources; audience segmentation tools that improve customer interaction for online stores and customer-focused solutions in any of the following areas: socio-demographic profile, online history and user journeys, communication channels, e-commerce, and others.

ChelPipe is focusing on making pipe industry more digitalized by looking for new mathematical models based on Big Data technologies in production.

State Transport Leasing Company is looking for multiple ICT solutions such as digital design and modeling, digital twins for technical resources, platforms for industrial IoT, additive technologies and additive production, systems for transport monitoring and control, automated systems to control the quality of service.

GenerationS helps to find the proper ICT solutions to match the companies contributing to the industry transformation.

Share your story (your narrative)

GenerationS was launched to support innovation projects in Russia in 2013. Since then, it  transformed into a corporate innovation platform, that matches startups with corporates globally and support with the implementation of these joint projects.

This year is specifically fruitful for ICT projects, in particular, we worked on the following:

We worked on the following: in FMCG sector we are looking for ICT solutions that can improve processes and make companies more transparent. For example, we scouted Big Data solutions to enable PepsiCo to personalize content for their customers.

ChelPipe Group: due to COVID-19, the acceleration program was fully transformed and realized online. Almost 200 startup projects were assessed remotely and 51 of them participated in Online Bootcamp, including 11 ICT projects (3 were selected to launch pilots)

In the beginning of july together with The Franco-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

In the beginning of july we together with the Franco-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized an ICT startup pitch session for corporate innovators, looking for solutions in supply chain and e-commerce.

Our team also puplished the report on new trends and technologies to adapt to the new reality, a list of GenerationS and RVC Services and IT-solutions for health monitoring, Development of competence of medical staff and support for medical institutions, IT-solutions for monitoring self-isolation requirements and public health, Solutions for business and other were presented. The report was downloaded by more than 500 users, more than 30 solutions were presented.

Please provide any additional relevant information that you would like to share.

We are working with Russian and international projects that want to penetrate Russian market.

In 2018, GenerationS became the best corporate accelerator in Europe according to Corporate Startup Summit. In 2019, GenerationS was selected as one of TOP-5 public business accelerators according to The World Benchmark Study 2019-2020 held by UBI Global.

As assessed by UBI Global, Generation S demonstrated exceptional achievement in value for client? startups, value for the local ecosystem, and overall attractiveness of the program in general.

Hi Galina,
Good initiative, have you considered start up for ICT solutions in health?

Galina Dremova Jul 10, 2020

Hi, Eunice) Nice to meet you. So far we haven't come across this opportunity. In fact we did have a joint accelerator with Ferring, but we were looking for innovations in reproductive medicine to increase the quality of life for people around the world.

GenS is a great value adder for global startup community! Concrete results and efficient operations.

Askar, thank you for such a feedback!

GenS is the best Accelerator!

Galina Dremova Jul 13, 2020

Rostislav, thanks a lot!

Henry Dobson Jul 13, 2020

Hi Galina, congratulations on your success so far. Can you please clarify, do you assist international startups with entering the Russian market, or Russian startups looking to expand internationally, or both?
What is your "unique selling point"? (e.g. how do you differentiate yourself from other accelerator programs in Russia.

As an ecosystem builder it's important that you know exactly who you are aiming to help and support specifically, otherwise you risk being just another startup accelerator.

Galina Dremova Jul 14, 2020

Hi Henry,

Startup scouting is the main part of our activity, but not the only one.

Regarding startups from the abroad – yes, based on our partner’s requests we also scout startups outside of Russia and once they are selected for further stage, we do provide them assistance and dedicated mentors (from our accelerators that are focal points for them before contract is signed). We do explain them the key aspects of Russian legislations, conduct calls and clarifying sessions and help them and the partner to build the most productive form of cooperation.

When it comes to our unique selling point then I would say that despite being an accelerator, which deals on a year basis with pretty big amount of startups we really manage to find individual approach to each one of them and build strong bond, which lasts long after the accelerator is over. That means a lot to us.

are you giving any funding opportunity to the startup ?

Galina Dremova Aug 26, 2020

Achia, hi. As a part of Russian Venture Company we try to find possible ways of connecting startups with relevant funds.

Fahmida Hossain Jul 26, 2020

Innovation Guide is really cool idea for startup companies. Do you select startups through any competition? Are there any selection processes or criteria?

Galina Dremova Aug 26, 2020

Fahmida, hi. Thanks a lot. Yes, we do select startups based on company's need - as a part of an offciial scouting program. But if we spot a really promising startup we also can link it and connect with a company for a potential match in the future.

the idea is good but your story is still more connected to your idea than your own life story

Tafadzwa Chikwereti Aug 5, 2020

After reading about the idea you proposed for accelarator , I would like to say that it is a wonderful and fantastic idea as it goes in line with the goals of the United Nation.
To add to your solution, I am sharing with you questions from one of our trainings that can help in refining our ideas and projects
What business model will you follow to implement this idea?
What methodology or strategy will you use during different processes of implementing this idea?
Which are the processes you have to go through until the finalization of the idea?
What means or tools do you need to implement my idea?
Which are your potential collaborators, investors?
I honestly suggest that before you submit your idea or project, please and ask yourself these questions and even if you have submitted their project, do remember that we still have opportunity to refine our ideas and resubmit. I hope that you find this useful.

The Sdg's are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

Please vote and comment for my idea too in the campus community

Information about your key activities that (i) support the realization of your goal and (ii) bridge the gap between your challenges and opportunities are essential. Also, how is your organization designed to efficiently facilitate the projects/key activities?

Nivashini, hi) Among our key activities (apart from scouting) we can highlight - mentor sessions for the startups (where mentors are representatives not only from Russia but also international), educational sessions for corporate's representatives where we introduce them to the benchmark companies (in terms if implementing innovative solutions). In this case we contribute to creating an innovation community where understanding of innovations is equal for both parties - startups and companies. These activities prepare them for better dialogue.
