Share your story (your narrative)
I was raised in a rural area known as Alagbado in Lagos, Nigeria. I grew up alongside childhood friends with whom I engaged in different sports; I loved football and tennis so much!
My ‘middle-class’ parents, with the little they had, tried their best to send me to school while I helplessly watched my friends hawk away in their formative years.
Eventually, I left Alagbado to stay with my Grandma in Anthony-Village, Lagos where I furthered my Secondary education and immediately gained admission into the University. Along the way, I fell in love with books, and these experiences helped shape my perspectives and transformed my life.
Few years down the line, my parent’s sacrifice turned out to be one the greatest game-changers for me. But sadly, this is not the case for my friends.
Today, each time I visit that Alagbado neighborhood, it grieves my heart to see my childhood friends languish away doing exactly same things they used to do about two decades ago, on same spot, simply because of lack of education. What’s even more disheartening is the fast-increasing number of young people in same situation, across Africa.
As you read this, In Nigeria alone, over 25 million young people are out of school while 83% of those in school fail WASSCE. We have a little over 150 universities to cater for a country with over 200 million people. Worse still, according to Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, over 60 million Nigerians can’t even read nor write. Africa has a dangerous educational crisis and young people across the continent are ill-prepared for future jobs.
I believe the most sustainable way to preserve Africa’s future is to swiftly increase the number of empowered youths above the weaklings through access to quality education.
So, in early 2019, I left a great role with a great organization to co-found Afrilearn, an EdTech company actively working to provide world-class education for Africans anywhere, alongside my resourceful friend, Gabriel Olatunji-Legend.
Please provide any additional relevant information that you would like to share.
Founded to solve this problem in 2018, Afrilearn actively integrates a strong network of genius teachers, developers and animators to create engaging video lessons delivered via highly affordable App, Web and data-free Dongle services. We also provide online practice tests, solutions and assessments for highly competitive examinations like the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination among others. Additionally, we support users with 24/7 access to tutors online.
How can I access your web platform.
Hello Isaac, you have a great idea with ClassNotes.ng. I have few thoughts to share that may be of help; (1) Your Objectives- you could look at it this way ; how would ClassNotes.ng help your community live better. This would help you state your objectives better.(2) The Problems, picture it this way, what problem(s) does ClassNotes.ng help to solve in your community as it relates to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Be community specific and not continental.(3)For your opportunities- look at it this way what led you to create ClassNotes.ng, just like you mentioned in your story it was as a result of your friends out of school in your community. And be community specific. You do have a great idea that can create great impact, Try to understand the questions better, it would help you articulate your idea better. You have a great story.Just my candid opinion, hope it guides you better. Best wishes.
Great idea! but In Nigeria, a higher percentage of the populace in rural areas are not internet savvy and also ,The average Nigerian in most of Urban areas are faced with unstable electric power supply and high cost of data /internet services as so even the ones who have mobile phones may not be privileged to get the full benefit of this package , how can these idea be accessible to people in slum areas?
Nice, the question here once again would be what makes it different from Coursera, Edx or even Microsoft 4Afrika ? How about the high cost of internet bundle ? How about if your content is available for download at N299 on play store and Apple store that is outright purchase and then after a while when your team has updated content, the update is accessed at N299 ?
Hi Isaac,
First of you have a brilliant idea and kudos for setting up the classnotes platform. However you need to restructure how you answer your questions. For instance "Objectives". For you to be able to outline your objectives clearly, i will advice you first get the major "problem". Then think of a solution, which in your case is "classnotes" ----> Then highlight what "Classnotes" is trying to solve. Wish you all the best
Regards
I must say you have a great project.
While it's an excellent initiative, I think you should also consider its sustainability post-covid19 especially when students would be returning to their various schools. The way I see it, you need to properly understudy the spending behavior of your target market. With over 93k in views, you had less than 1% registered users in a month.
Young people are excited, they want to get busy and be productive, pass exams, start projects. Make it accessible. You have market here but to capture all of it, you will need to rejig your business model playbook: a premium model will thrive here as you reel out other features you can charge for them.
I have looked at ClassNotes.ng and it is good. However, you have consider the digital age of consent for children & teenagers. GDPR has changed the rules, and data privacy is now a big issue.
Hi Isaac,
I trust you are well.
Let me congratulate you on your idea and the traction you have to build thus far. I have no doubts that more and more children will begin to use your edu-site and gain the knowledge they need to pass.
I wish to share a few considerations.
1. Consider using the minimum viable solution section to explain the great features currently on your edu-site that help solve the problem of high failure rate which you have articulated in the problem section. This section should make us better understand your solution and get excited about it.
2. Since you’ve already developed a prototype, how about you consider changing your objectives into SMART objectives to reflect where you would like to take your prototype going forward. Visit https://thedigitalprojectmanager.com/project-objectives/ for a detailed explanation

Congratulations Isaac, ClassNotes.ng is really a great initiative. Please share with us your competitive advantages.
Education is at the heart of resilience, our youth have the future. How do you compete with Bridge Interational Aademies that have their content for free, I think?
Dear Isaac,
Congratulations on your idea. I specially liked the way you share your story, it helps people relate with why you are passionate about this project. In answering questions from other creators, you state that the content is "curriculum-specific to the approved scheme of work for secondary schools across Africa". I think this is also very important and you should include it in your final submission.
A few comments (different from what others have commented) regarding your proposal would be:
1. I think it would be a good idea to put the cost of using the platform in dollars or euros. This would help readers to quickly get an idea of how much the courses cost to users.
2. If the courses are curriculum-specific to Nigeria and other African countries, it would be worth evaluating if you could include a certificate of completion for students who complete and pass the courses. In a later stage, you could work with the government(s) to provide an official certificate for students who complete and pass the courses.
I hope this feedback is useful. Best regards,
Alberto
Don't you think you should change your financial sustainability model? in order to make it affordable by everyone?
