HealthServes Telemedicine and EHR Cloud Platform

We are creating a solution that will enable healthcare professionals to render healthcare consultation to their patients online using virtual consulting system that features two-way communication channel between  patients and healthcare professionals as well as robust digital patient information management in traditional hospital setting. The platform has inbuilt clinical documentation tools to enable healthcare professionals to document their interaction with their patients both in virtual consultation and hospital consultation. The documentation entered into the system can be accessed by the next clinician in the line of care for the patient, in order to promote patient safety, continuity of care as well as collaborative patient management. By so doing, patients and the clinicians can maintain social distancing during healthcare consultation and there will be no need for both clinicians and clerical staff to be touching patient's folders which can increase transmission of covid-19 in the community.

Define three specific objectives that you would like to achieve with your proposal.

We want to help reduce physical contact between clinicians and the patients during consultation and eliminate  the need for patients to visit hospital for minor ailments so that we can reduce community transmission of covid-19.

Our solution will also help to remove geographical barrier in access to healthcare as patient can consult any healthcare professional anywhere in the world, even healthcare professionals that live in other country can make their service available to patients in other country without them needing to travel to consult their clinicians.

We will also help to mitigate global inequality in the distribution of healthcare professional population as well as  promote access to quality healthcare across the globe.

What problems (particularly in value chain competitiveness and global disruption) are your community’s stakeholders facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic?

People are finding it increasingly difficult to access healthcare due to fear of contracting covid -19 among patients and clinicians alike. Patients don't want to visit hospitals when they are sick and clinicians don't want to attend to patients when they are sick because they are afraid patient may be suffering from covid -19 and they don't want to get infected.

This has resulted to increase in non covid-19 related deaths which from available statistics, may even be higher than death due to covid-19 within the period under review.

Lot of people have lost their loved ones simply because there was no clinician willing to attend to them even when they arrived at healthcare facility on time for treatment

What minimum viable solution(s) are you proposing to address the challenge(s) in your community?

We are proposing a robust telemedicine cloud-based platform for virtual clinical consultation equipped with agile electronic health record documentation system for  clinical documentation, patient information processing  and transmission of patient medical information from one clinician to another such as prescription, lab result and medical case note for  collaborative and well coordinated patient care cycle.

Share your story (your narrative)

With our solution, patients can consult their doctors at the comfort of their home. Their doctor can generate and transmit lab requisition to the lab scientist who will in turn can run lab test for the patient.

The lab scientist can use our solution to deliver the lab result to the doctor online too. The doctor can in turn generate prescription with which the patient can order their medication from their pharmacist at home and the drug delivered to them with instruction on how to take the medication communicated to the patient both verbally and written by the pharmacist using our digital health platform.

Moreso, they can use the two-way communication channel to remain in touch with their clinicians through the duration of treatment for optimised treatment outcome. All these can be done online without the patient leaving their home, expect when a patient needs to submit lab specimen .

Please provide any additional relevant information that you would like to share.

We have already commenced the development of this solution and we can made good progress in translating our idea to reality. One can even see what we have done so far on www.healthserves.org

As at the time of submitting this idea both government and private hospitals are ready deploying our solution in many states in Nigeria.

Good initiative. How does your virtual consulting system handle medical emergencies?

Jude Okoye Jul 11, 2020

Our digital solution has provision for emergency medical attention. HealthServes system digitalize all patient medical record which is stored in the cloud. In the event of an emergency, there is a biometric fingerprint software that can automatically identify every patient via their fingerprint ID(pattern) and it helps healthcare professionals to quickly identify their Patient and retrieve their medical record at once for informed and quick medical attention.

James Kiruri Jul 14, 2020

Fantastic idea, is this to promote telemedicine, welcome especially this time of Covid19

Jude Okoye Jul 14, 2020

Yes, our system promote telemedicine and at the same time, integrate into the work flow of traditional hospital system. Our solution features digital cloud based patient record management that is optimised with fingerprint biometric file management . What this means is that every patient file can be retrieved, process, documented, file and transmitted by mere scanning of the a patient's fingerprint pattern to use their fingerprint ID to access their files in a matter of seconds.

Would this solution also consist of a directory of GPs, Specialists, Hospitals and match them to certain symptoms or questions for the user to get assisted in the first place to select their health care provider?

Jude Okoye Jul 16, 2020

There is a comprehensive database of potential healthcare professionals with data filter tools to enable a patient narrow down the list to only healthcare professionals with matching skill set to meet a particular patient's health need.

Tafadzwa Chikwereti Jul 19, 2020

Great idea,
So since it has a two way system and then next physician can look into the patients files how do you prevent unauthorized access to such intrusions

Jude Okoye Jul 20, 2020

You can only gain authorization during healthcare consultation to look into a patient folder as a clinician when the patient authorize you by placing either of their thumbs on your Fingerprint scanner specially made for this purpose.

Jude Okoye Jul 20, 2020

Here is the scanner to gain patient authorization. You can now see that the system is protected from unauthorised intrusions. Beyond this , there are other security majors in place as well.

Niedja Cavalcante Jul 21, 2020

Hi Jude,

I hope you are doing well. Thank you for sharing your project´s overview with us. After reading the details on project some questions came to mind that could help to make your project distinguished.

1- In terms of technology

The platform have a great purpose. And in times of cyber attacks increase how the patient's data will be kept safe on the platform. Is there cybersecurity solutions that will will guarantee that data safety for the target audience?
The platform is designed to be used worldwide as a “robust” platform. So, is there a maximum capacity related to the scalability? How many users and what the document retain capacity is supported on the platform or is there scalability plans to keep increasing the support in order to add more users?

2- In terms of business model
The project´proposal have two eye catching objectives which are: remove “geographical barrier” and “mitigate global inequality in the distribution of healthcare professional population as well as promote access to quality healthcare across the globe”
Is there any specific features to support money exchange without impacting people who live on a country with currency worth less or to make simple to use health insurance among countries?
What are the advantages for investors on the platform?

3- In terms of features
The communication among patients and doctors is very significant especially on the “ new normal” times we will leave after COVID19. So, does the platform have special communication features to potencialize understanding or communication other than access to files and schedule appointments?

I hope the questions presented above are of help. Keep up the great work!

Best regards,
Niedja Cavalcante .

Jude Okoye Jul 21, 2020

@Niedja Cavalcante, i appreciate the fact that you took time to read our project in great detail. And from your questions, it show you have a good understanding of our mission and the hurdles we need to overcome as we forge ahead.
1- In terms of technology
You asked question about the security of the platform in the face of increasing cybersecurity. We have implemented Transport Layer Socket (TLS 2.0) encryption to prevent third parties from eavesdropping on transmission from our platform. Also every account is secured with user chosen Password. In addition, Patient medical record is accessible by healthcare professional only via their fingerprint ID with liveness detector technology encoded as well as OTP code as alternative which is linked to patient mobile line. We also devote 20% of our net profit for research and development on security and innovations.
In terms of capacity of the platform, it can hold over 26 billion patient users at the moment and we intend to scale up as event unfolds. As for the document storage, there is no limit to that as we can alway scale up our server storage capacity on the need basis.
2- In terms of business model
we are committed to removing geographical barrier in accessing healthcare as well as global inequality in access to healthcare. These are two serious problem to global healthcare but nothing tangible is being done by global stakeholders. Developing countries even when they don't have enough, are losing their highly trained healthcare personnels in the form of migration to seek greener pastures in developed countries. I can relate to this very well. As a healthcare professional, more than 40% of my classmates while in university are either living in America, Canada, Uk and some other developed Countries. With our solution, we can balance this inequality using technology. Developing countries can still benefit from the knowledge and expertise of their diaspora community as well as others experts using technology . We intend to accommodate local currencies of developing nations in our platform so that they can benefit from our solution. There is also plan in the future to have a form of global health insurance that will make patients that subscribe to it to receive healthcare from healthcare professionals from any country using our platform.
As for the investors, this is the real deal! The market is there and it is almost as the potential is still untapped and the target users are rapidly adopting our solution in droves. Thus, astute investors who have appetite for investment in technological solutions will definitely recoup their investment in a short time. The details of which can be discussed when interested investors contact us directly via ceo@healthserves.org .
3- In terms of features
Our communication system goes beyond accessing patient's files. Our platform is equipped with robust communication system featuring VoIP for audio and audio-video communication during healthcare consultation as well as live chat features. There is more to how our communication system tends to address quality of healthcare delivery, patient safety , continuity of care and collaborative patient management in a global scale but that is outside the scope of this write-up.
Thanks
Dr Okoye J.C

This is an awesome idea. Quick question: Who own the information stored in the cloud? Is the patient or the doctors/hospitals or clinicians because should there be a bleach, that has to be someone/entity to be liable. But great idea

Thanks for that important question. Healthcare ecosystem has a complex interaction of various stakeholders.
The folder access is well regimented on HealthServes EHR. A hospital own files created in within their institution, healthcare professionals have access to files created by them within an institution while the patient is the ultimate owner of the file.
If you need more clarification, do let me know and i will do justice to that.

Achia Khaleda Jul 24, 2020

Most wanted initiative in this covid 19 situation. how do you manage the emergency patient. Do you have any plan for home service ? specially for the senior citizen!

Jude Okoye Jul 24, 2020

There is provision for patient to have direct communication link with any clinicians that attends to them on the system. Thus, reaching their physician in the event of emergency is a just call away. And that call, you don't need call credit but internet to make it. That is for now. In future , we going to introduce wearable device that will alert a patient's physician of any health danger even before it happens so that preventive measure can be initiated in good time.

Davidson Akujiofor Jul 26, 2020

Hi, why not also include in your platform for individuals to be able to make their prescriptions and bills publicly seen, so as to enable people who cannot afford their bills get help?

Jude Okoye Jul 26, 2020

That will be unethical. It is not allowed to display patient information to third party without patient's consent. Besides, the platform is healthcare ecosystem information management system. There are lot of platforms devoted to help those in need of any kind, raise fund.

Htet Zan Linn Jul 28, 2020

Hi @Jude, this is fantastic and most of it sounds familiar to what we are trying to do with OnDoctor in Myanmar. Perhaps we can learn from each others experience of operating such platform and challenges in encouraging more people to adopt to virtual medical consultation.

Jude Okoye Jul 28, 2020

We will be eager to share notes on successes and challenges with you. You can reach me on ceo@healthserves.org for further discussion.

Htet Zan Linn Jul 28, 2020

Thank you Jude, will certainly do !

Alin-Claudiu Apostu Aug 8, 2020

Hello Jude,

Congratulations on the idea. For sure you are riding a good wave. Telemedicine is a growing industry that has been also accelerated with the pandemic.

I have a few questions if you can help me understand it better.
- You are just connecting patients with medical personnel or you are also employing staff? If you are connecting - how do you ensure the quality of the personnel and if you are employing I think it changes a little bit the value proposition. Based on this question - how does the revenue model look like?
- In terms of fingerprinting - how are people going to scan their fingerprint? What if they don't have a smartphone to do that?
- I've seen that the platform has a copyright with 2018? Is it operational? Did you deploy it? What is the feedback and the traction? I've seen that the government wants to scale it in different regions. How is that working?
- How will you do the onboarding of the patient's medical records. How do you make them/ the doctors complete that information on the platform? This is sometimes vital for putting a diagnostic
- Besides the communication with the doctor I have seen that you also want to connect them with the laboratories. Sometimes they need to go physically there for different analyses.
- How does the team look like? Do you have any background in the med sector?

Congrats on the initiative!

Jude Okoye Aug 8, 2020

I am a clinical pharmacist with over 13 years of clinical experience. The fingerprint is used by Professionals to retrieve their patient's medical folder in healthcare facility setting. There is a special fingerprint scanner for that purpose.

Virtualization is a promising approach for consultancies to optimize their consulting processes and thereby an innovative option to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. The downside of the virtualization is the reduced direct interaction of clients and consultants and thus the risk of weaker client-consultant-relationships – a critical resource of consultancies. How do you intend to address that and also the sensitization?

Jude Okoye Aug 11, 2020

There are many reasons an individual may opt for virtual consultation. Among such reasons include seeking for second opinion, avoiding the need to travel along distance to consult a clinician, maintaining social distancing, seeking highly skilled consultants that are in short supply in ones geographical location and many more. In essence, the need for virtual consultation far outweigh the shortcoming associated with it.
And to enhance good understanding of the patient, a patient can grant the clinician he is consulting online access to his medical record while the consultation last for better patient knowledge and clinical intervention.
However, virtual consultation may basically serve as first point of contact between clinician and the client. Further investigation may warrant physical visit to the consultant.

DJ Koeman Aug 27, 2020

Hey Jude (no pun intended), wonderful initiative! 2 quick questions: how does the money flow? Who pays what? And how data/bandwidth intensive is your solution? Even if patient has smartphone, will he/she be able to afford the data bundle and consulting charges?

Samuel Mugabi Aug 31, 2020

Interesting Idea. All the Best forward.
